WANT A DIFFERENT STYLE,
TRY A KAYAK, DUCKIE OR RAFT

KAYAKS

kayaker white water kayaking

Kayaks are the hottest, newest thing on the market today. They are great for enthusiastic beginners, stable and maneuverable. These crafts are a delightful way to paddle a river and great to fish out of.

Sit-On Kayaks

sit on kayak

For those of you that are afraid to paddle a kayak, because of the close enclosure of the cockpit, now you can sit on top and still enjoy the thrills of a kayak

DUCKIES

(Inflatable Kayaks)

duckie

Want to get a different perspective on the river? Duckie trips are the fastest growing program at Eagle’s Nest Outfitters. Adults are finding that duckies allow them to experience the thrill of white water kayaking without the investment in training. As duckies are suitable for all ages, their use makes our trips enjoyable for the whole family. Duckies are more stable and forgiving than kayaks and can be enjoyed with a minimum of instruction. They can be paddled individually or shared by two people. Since they are smaller and lighter than rafts, they make even the smallest waves exciting.

RAFTING

RAFTING

This four person raft is great for a small group or small family who wants to relax and float the river or fishermen wanting a little more room to maneuver while hauling in the big ones

Smoke Hole/Big Bend to Base

Entering Smoke Hole Canyon you will see Cave Mountain and Eagle Rock, two very noteworthy natural monuments. As you leave the Smoke Hole Campgrounds, you will enter the most scenic, most historic, and most famous run in West Virginia. This is the land of whiskey stills, Indian and Civil War battles, and above all, mountaineer pride and independence. For the most part the river is running through an isolated canyon of unparalleled grandeur. Mountaineer farms and homesteads add to the charm of the run, reminding the paddler of the fortitude and austerity of early settlers.

Smoke Hole Caverns to Base

This run into Base contains nice water. Many of the rapids are visible from the road, but soon the river tapers off to join its mama, the South Branch, fresh out of Smoke Hole. While leaving the mountains behind, it still provides some spectacular scenery.

THE FAMOUS TROUGH CANYON
Old Fields Bridge to Harminson’s

This is a very beautiful and popular canoeing river on which many organizations sponsor large float trips. It is an ideal river for novices or even a non-canoeist to run. The paddler will find himself entering the serenity of a deep canyon with 1500ft. mountain walls rising steeply from each side of the river. The vistas are ever changing and provide spectacular scenery in the spring and fall when seasonal colors are at their peak. There is very little white water in the Trough, but the scenery and the chance to see bald eagles in flight more than makes up for this lack.
